1800's Metal Flip-Top Spectacle Case $49.95 (non-engraved)

This spectacle case was popular and widely available throughout the 1800‘s. Although manufacturing of this style case ceased in about 1860, usage continued well into the end of the century. The three piece design was made of steel, tin or "German silver", an inexpensive alloy composed of varying amounts of copper, zinc and nickel that was sometimes mistaken for real silver. The flip-top lid was held closed by friction.
Our model is fully lined tin-plated steel, offering the strength and durability of steel with the quality look of German silver. Over time the finish will dull and develop a patina as did the originals and the friction closure lid, initially a bit snug, will break in and work smoothly.
Original cases of this type often contained the name of the owner or presentation information engraved on the top lid. If you would like some type of case personalization contact us with details and we will do our best to accommodate you.
